ET-002 Ross

The one that colours surface triangles automatically.

Status: In Development

Ross is being developed to eliminate one of the most repetitive tasks in Civil 3D model preparation: manually selecting and colouring large numbers of surface triangles and 3D faces for engineering model review.

Instead of working through terrain triangle by triangle, Ross is intended to help designers quickly apply colours and materials within defined areas of a Civil 3D model.

The goal is simple: less manual selection, faster model preparation.

Built for Civil 3D Production Work

Ross isn't intended to create photorealistic terrain or presentation graphics.

It's being designed for CAD designers and technologists who need clear, practical model visualization for engineering coordination and review.

Potential uses include identifying areas such as:

  • Asphalt

  • Gravel

  • Common fill

  • Topsoil

  • Water

  • Concrete

  • Ditches

  • Slopes

  • Other user-defined materials or areas

The result is the same engineering model, prepared more clearly for review without spending hours manually selecting individual triangles and faces.

How Ross Works

Ross is being designed around a simple idea: use geometry already present in the drawing to help define where different colours or materials belong.

Feature lines, breaklines, polylines, and other project geometry may be used to define areas within the model.

Ross can then help process the surface triangles or 3D faces within those areas as a group, reducing the repetitive selection normally required to prepare the model manually.

Define the area. Assign the appearance. Let Ross handle the triangles.

Ideal For

  • Civil 3D

  • Heavy civil

  • Earthworks

  • Land development

  • Industrial and infrastructure projects

  • Engineering coordination and model review

Current Development

Ross is currently under active development.

Version 1 is focused on solving one problem exceptionally well:

Making it faster to colour and organize Civil 3D terrain for engineering model review.

The exact workflow and feature set are still being refined. That's intentional. We want the first release to solve the real production problem without burying it under unnecessary complexity.

Help Shape Ross

We're building Ross around real-world Civil 3D workflows.

If manually colouring surface triangles or 3D faces is part of your current process, we'd like to hear how you do it, what slows you down, and what you'd want Ross to automate.

Your feedback can help shape the first public release.
